ROOF DECK:Fully-boarded (Sarked) with 18mm thick OSB or Ply.
FIXING:Large 10mm diameter head, galvanised 1.2” (40mm) by 0.1” (2.5mm) steel nails (using hammer or nail-gun). Longer 2” (65mm) nails are required for fixing ridges and hips. Corrosion resistant fasteners are always recommended, especially in coastal areas. In Scotland we recommend the use of Stainless Steel nails for fixing. For nail guns, a minimum of 7.1mm diameter nail heads should be used, we ideally recommend Bostitch CR3DGAL Galvanised Roofing Coil Nails with a large 10mm head.

RidgeMaster Plus/HipMaster is fixed underneath standard Ridge and Hip Caps and so longer 100mm nails are needed to penetrate through the materials and into the wooden roof structure underneath to secure.
ROOFING MEMBRANE:Recommended use of impermeable (non-breathable) Type HR roofing membrane. Please see our Select Shake Fixing Guide for further details.
VENTILATION:Ventilation in accordance with BS 5250 should be adhered to. DaVinci Select Shake is categorised as an "insufficiently air open" product by BS 5250 standards and provision should be made to ventilate the roof space efficiently.

See our Select Shake Fixing Guide for further details.

Please note that our recommendations here and in our Fixing Guide are purely manufacturers guidance and should never supersede local building authority recommendations. Please consult your local building officer before commencing work.
ADHESIVE:An adhesive for Polyethylene compounds is needed, PERMABOND® TA4605 or TA4610 is recommended (TA4605 is an instant bond whereas TA4610 allows a bit more time for bonding larger surfaces). Infinity Bond MMA 500 is an alternative compound to use.
SEALANT:A Butyl-based sealant should always be used with DaVinci Select Shake. Note that the use of Silicon sealants may invalidate your warranty.
CUTTING:Fine-toothed handsaw, jigsaw, circular saw, or sharp utility blade.
STORAGE/TEMPERATURE:DaVinci Select Shake should not be stored on roof decks in such a manner as to over-stress and/or damage the deck and supporting structure.
Cold Weather Installation: DaVinci Select Shake should be stored in original packaging in a storage facility where the temperature meets or exceeds 7°C. Use protective coverage over all pallets while being temporarily stored on-site. DaVinci Select Shake must be conditioned at a temperature no lower than 7°C for twenty-four (24) hours prior to use. DaVinci Select Shake may be installed at temperatures as low as 0°C but must be hand fastened, the use of a pneumatic gun below 7°C will result in cracking and webbing in the fastened area. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s installation requirements for all underlay or membrane and any other applications. Comply with any and all local building regulations. Note of Caution: The tiles can be slippery under certain conditions and job site safety procedures should be enforced.
ACCELERATED ULTRA VIOLET EXPOSURE AND STRESS TESTING:Joint testing to ASTM G 155-13 and ASTM D790 (5,000 hours of super-intense xenon arc light UV simulation along with tensile properties testing at the same time to see if UV affected the material) found no evidence of cracking, crazing, pitting, chalking, discolouration or any other material changes during the test phase.
FREEZE-THAW CYCLE:No signs of damage or cracking after 300 cycles.
WATER ABSORPTION:No appreciable weight gain.
WATER PERMEATION:Shake tiles shown to be impermeable.
TEMPERATURE CYCLING:No signs of cracking, curling, deformation, or visible expansion.
WARRANTY:40-years. Please see our Warranty Document for further information.
EXPECTED LIFESPAN:Because DaVinci Select Shake does not delaminate or or deteriorate in the same way a natural product does, its life expectancy would be in excess of 75 years, far outlasting natural cedar shakes.
